The New Orleans Hornets will officially be rebranded as the New Orleans Pelicans starting next season. Here is the team’s official logos from the Hornets’ website.

Kobe Bryant became the 5th player in NBA history to score 30,000 points tonight. He is the youngest player to accomplish the feat, however the fact that he came into the league out of high school skews that stat a bit.

The New Orleans Hornets are reportedly considering a change in nickname and mascot from the Hornets to the Pelicans. The brown pelican (above) is the state bird of Louisiana and new Hornets owner Tom Benson already owns the rights to the name. If this change actually occurs, it could also have significant meaning in Charlotte, where Bobcats owner Michael Jordan has previously stated interest in bringing the Hornets brand back if it were to become available.

The Lopez Brothers seem to be just as scared of Disneyland’s Splash Mountain as they are of getting rebounds.
